Modeling of coal swelling induced by water vapor adsorption

Zhejun PAN

Frontiers of Chemical Science and Engineering 2012, Volume 6, Issue 1,   Pages 94-103 doi: 10.1007/s11705-011-1172-2

Abstract: Gas adsorption-induced coal swelling is a well-know phenomenon.Coal swelling or shrinkage by adsorption or desorption of water vapor has not been well understood butUnlike gas adsorption in coal which usually forms a single layer of adsorbed molecules, water vapor adsorptionThe model extended an energy balance approach for gas adsorption-induced coal swelling to water vaporadsorption changes the surface energy, which thus causes coal to swell.

Frontiers of Chemical Science and Engineering 2023, Volume 17, Issue 2,   Pages 236-248 doi: 10.1007/s11705-022-2193-8

Abstract: The adsorption property of CMFC toward fluoride ion was analyzed by batch experiments. In fact, CMFC exhibited adsorption capacity of 227.3 mg∙g‒1 toward fluoride ion. Results showed that ion exchange, electrostatic attraction and chemical adsorption were the main mechanismfor the adhesion of large amount of fluoride ion on the CMFC surface, and the high adsorption capacityresponded to the low pH of the adsorption system.
